Oh my god! That is the most sick thing. My stomach is up in knots. I don’t want to ever get in a car again. And my husband wonders why I won’t let him own a bike. I wouldn’t want to see him like this. I would never get past it. For his family, I am so very sorry!

It is a safe bet to say that is one rice rider that wont speed and show off again.

wrecker 55 (15:36:37) :

You know what DAVE ? That is a COLD statement made by you. I find that even more appalling since I have a son named Dave that also owns one of these “rice rockets” and has told me all manner of stories about going fast and having close calls. I believe him because I know him. I have tried everything I know to get him to sell his ’sport’ bike.
BUT, YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE?????? No one is able to get them to change their minds. They have to change them on their own and hopefully it will be after learning from SOMEONE ELSE’S MISTAKES !!!!
And Tawnya, I too feel extreme loss for the poor family of this person’s selfish act. I am always sad to see someone scraped along the roadway like this at any time and I have seen more of this than most of all of you combined.
I grew up the son of a auto wrecking yard owner and our house was within the business fence so all the cars towed in were in our front yard, side yard , and all around us. The bloodiest, and most severly crashed ones were no exception. They usually sat near the shop and house areas as they were the ones that had to be looked at by the insurance people and so on.
I have never been a total stranger to death. When you crawl in a car to take off a part and the floor mats squish blood, you have to wonder whose life left them there, and why.
I grew up riding motorbikes when I was 5 years old. Five. Not a mini bike or pocket bike or scaled down bike. I started with a 90 cc Hodaka and worked my way up from there. I never grew tired of riding…hours and hours and hours. I would have never come home except for gas.
I have rode off road all my life and tried riding on the highway with a 650 cc Yamaha twin. I have had SO many close calls on the twin that I quit on road riding after one year. The stress was too much.
After about 20 near misses I finally caught a pickup across the road broadside. Now, all these close calls you would think I am a terrible driver. I submit to you that if I had not been an EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD driver, each one of them would have been a crash.
I NEVER broke a speed limit, never rode recklessly, never disobeyed any traffic laws, always rode with my lights on and ALWAYS wear a helmet. There was nothing I can see that caused any of these close calls. The one I finally hit was drunk and tried to U-turn in front of me. Thankfully I was doing far, far, less than the posted speed limit and only damaged my bike and not myself. Still, that was the end of the road for me.
I had not seen my son in years and when I first caught up to him again he had this jet on two wheels as his prize possesion. I tried very tactfully to try and persuade him to get rid of it and get something tamer. I have also suggested to him that he rid himself of that coffin on wheels in a not so subtle way. I tried to convince him to get an off road bike and go that way if he needs to ride, but he has resisted up to now.
Now he has a new wife, a new baby, a new job, and a life that he finally feels is more important than that bike and the thrill it gives him. I WILL send my son these pictures because I love him. He will be as shocked and disgusted as I was when I first looked at them.
I get more ill every time I see them and feel the urge to vomit at the sight of this waste of a human life. What was he like? Was he involved with family? Was he married or have kids? Who else suffers from his loss? He never took any of this into account when he swung his leg over this killing machine.
These types of motorcycle were never intended for the highway. They are designed to travel in a circle on a closed track at speeds equal to or approaching that of a NASCAR racing car. 200 mph or more!!!!! How do they think this is appropriate on a public road? We are all lucky that this poor soul ONLY killed himself and not a family driving innocently down the road with their family and children!
So, juancorona, as far as trying to reach someone about this fearful “sport” bike and convincing them to reach into theirself and find the sense to rid themselves of this killer temptation, I think you SHOULD show this picture to them! Copy and print, email or snailmail, send them the web link or anything you can do to get this picture to them!!!!

SAD TO SEE BUT ITS A REALITY. THIS HAPPENS FAR TOO OFTEN EVERY WERE. AND IF YOU ALL NOTICE HE WAS WEARING PROTECTIVE GEAR. HELMET AND ALL. BUT HES GONE. AND TO THINK THAT THERE ARE STILL STATES THAT ALLOW BIKERS TO RIDE WITH NO PROTECTION AT ALL.

SANTANA (22:13:06) :

WEREKER 55 That was a very good comment i wish everyone had as much sence as you did. I am a firefighter in fl and i see so many people ridding and what gets tome is that no matter how many times some one dies and its on the news they still think that it will never happen to them.

marty (12:10:54) :

this is mostly for wrecker55 but really for everyone.

riding a motorcycle is a risk. so is driving a car. so is riding in a car. every person decides what level of risk is acceptable to him or herself and must live (or die) with their decision.

to all those who show pictures like this to someone trying to get them not to ride, that’s your right. but if they decide to ride anyway, respect their decision, don’t think they’re stupid or have a death wish. go look at pictures of people decapitated on ferris wheels, crushed on sailboats, shot while walking down the street. you don’t then try to convince people not to sail, go to a carnival or walk to the 7-11 do you?

one thing that everyone (including those of you trying to discourage a rider or potential rider) should take away from these photos is that motorcycles or cars need to be treated with respect and operated with as much training as possible. it is irresponsible to climb on an R1 thinking that you could just figure it out as you go along. wrecker, you have been riding a long time. so have i. you’ve had near misses at or below the speed limit, as you say. so have i. we know your son’s tales of near death at high speed could just as easily be tales of near death at 15 mph. i am married. one kid. i still ride. i do the advanced rider course every time it’s offered. i manage my risks. do you think *I* am submitting to a “killer temptation?” of course not. i do everything necessary to ride safely, still knowing that i could get hit. then again, i could get killed in my car, by the same drunk driver who wouldn’t see me in EITHER vehicle.

motorcycle riders die, sure. but UNEDUCATED riders die more readily. and STUPID riders, those who know but should really know *better*, die more spectacularly than any of us. sometimes they take a safe rider or an innocent passenger with them, which is a real tragedy.

tell those you love who ride or want to ride - get trained. again. take the MSF course. again. and again. where i live helmets are optional; again, a risk management choice. laws don’t help much; put a helmet on a dumb rider and he’s still dumb. you haven’t improved anything, and now HE thinks he’s safer!

as for the guy in this set of pictures, regardless of his riding gear or training, he exceeded his limits, ran into bad luck, made a mistake, or God just wasn’t on his side that day.
